Adoption of the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

Southern Alleghenies Planning & Development Commission (SAP&DC), as a PennDOT planning partner, administers the transportation program for the Southern Alleghenies Rural Planning Organization (RPO), consisting of Bedford, Fulton, Huntingdon, and Somerset Counties.  On Wednesday, July 20, 2016, the Southern Alleghenies RPO adopted its Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

The plan utilized a survey tool called MetroQuest to solicit and incorporate feedback from the public into the plans.  Nearly 1,000 comments were received for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.  Additionally, listening sessions and stakeholder interviews were held to garner additional public input for the plan development.

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan’s focus is on safety, facility maintenance, continued planning, education, and maximizing investments in the Southern Alleghenies Region.  The plan utilizes public input to identify trail gaps, problem areas, and priorities of those who regularly use these facilities.  On Wednesday, August, 10, 2016, staff from SAP&DC traveled to PennDOT Central Office in Harrisburg to present the plan to the Deputy Secretary of Transportation for Planning and the Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator.

The finished plan is available for download at
