Transportation Alternatives (TA) Set-Asides

The Transportation Alternatives (TA) Set-Asides is identified in FAST Act, which took effect on December 4, 2015. The Program is similar to the former funding programs: Transportation Alternatives, Transportation Enhancements, Hometown Streets and Safe Routes to Schools, and Recreational Trails Programs.  The Program offers funding opportunities to help expand transportation choices and enhance the transportation experience through small, community-based transportation and recreation activities related to surface transportation.  The Program expands travel options by enhancing the transportation infrastructure through cultural, historic, aesthetic and environmental improvements.

Projects are first ranked by the RPO, with the final decision being made by PennDOT Central Office.  Applications are no longer being accepted for this round of TA Set-Asides.  Awards are expected to be made in the spring of 2018.  PennDOT expects to open the next round for applications sometime in 2019.  For more information, please visit PennDOT’s TA Set-Aside Page.
