The Southern Alleghenies RPO includes five airports in the four-county region.
None of the airports provides regularly scheduled passenger service.
- Bedford County Airport, Bedford County
This general service airport is located along Business Route 220 just north of the Borough of Bedford, near the town of Cessna. Its 4,113 foot runway with medium edge intensity lighting can handle single-wheel aircraft up to 30,000 and dual-wheel aircraft up to 60,000 pounds. A recently developed Business Park next to the airport will increase its activity in the near future. Bedford County Airport primarily accommodates B2 planes. Airside amenities include fuel, airplane and power plant repair, and hangar and tie-down storage for selected single-and multi-engine aircraft. The airport sits at a strategic crossroads of Interstates I-70, I-76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) I-99, U.S. 30 and U.S. 220. The airport has highway access from the major market areas of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.
- Huntingdon County Airport, Huntingdon County
The only public-use airport in Huntingdon County, the airport is adjacent to Route 522 approximately five miles south of the Borough of Mount Union. Its 3,120 foot graveled runway with low edge intensity lighting can support aircraft less than 12,500 pounds. Airside amenities include fuel and tie-down storage for fixed wing aircraft. Landside services include rental, charter and instruction opportunities. The county is completing the second phase of an airport study. Improvement projects along U.S. 522 will upgrade the highway and help spur activity at the airport. The facility provides easy access to the Riverview Business Park.
- Somerset County Airport, Somerset County
This general service airport is located four miles east of the City of Somerset along PA Route 28. The Pennsylvania Turnpike runs east-west through the county just south of the airport, and U.S. 219 runs north-south through the county just west of the airport. The 4,697 foot asphalt runway with medium lighting can support aircraft up to 18,000 pounds. A new airport terminal was recently constructed. Airside amenities include fuel, major airframe and power plant repair, and hangar and tie-down storage for fixed-wing aircraft. Landside services include charter, instruction, aircraft sales and rental opportunities. Future projects include extending the runway to approximately 5,000 feet with a 600-foot safety area and resurfacing the blacktop around the aircraft hangar. Parcels of land next to the airport are available for development. The Somerset County Industrial Park is located five miles from the airport.
- Indian Lake Airport, Somerset County
This general service airport is located 1.5 miles south of the junction of U.S. 30 and S.R. 106. The 4,490 foot asphalt runway with no edge intensity lighting can handle airplanes up to 12,000 pounds. Airside amenities are limited to tie-down storage for fixed-wing aircraft. Landside services include an administrative building with rest rooms and telephones. The facility is situated on Indian Lake, a popular recreation and summer home resort.
- Seven Springs Airport, Somerset County
This general service airport is located 17 miles west of the City of Somerset near the Somerset-Fayette county border. Access is provided from State Route 31. The airport has a 3,045 foot asphalt runway with medium edge intensity lighting. There are currently no weight restrictions; however, access is limited to smaller planes because of the runway’s size. Airside amenities include hangar and tie-down storage for fixed wing aircraft. Landside services include an administrative building with rest rooms, telephones, and a courtesy car. The airport offers convenient access for vacationers visiting Seven Springs Resort. The facility is just a few miles from Hidden Valley Resort. Operations are typically limited to the months between April and November because of winter snow and ice storms. There is no winter maintenance.
