Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)

An Intelligent Transportation System is an electronic device placed along a roadway to encourage safer travel.  ITSs include large flashing digital messaging boards, roadside cameras, high wind speed signs and weather stations.

This equipment warns drivers of severe weather conditions, changing road conditions, construction, accidents and roadway congestion.  SAP&DC’s RPO is currently working with PennDOT District 9-0 to develop an ITS Architecture for the region.
